For the last 10 years, Kirk Weiler
has been a teacher of mathematics at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, New York. During this time he has taught
many different courses, from core level Math A to Advanced Placement Calculus. In 2006, he earned his National Board
certificate for secondary mathematics instruction. Before becoming a teacher, Kirk received two degrees in environmental
engineering, his bachelors from the University of Illinois and his masters from Cornell University. After working as
an engineer, Kirk got involved in tutoring students in after school programs in Ithaca, New York. It was at this point
that he decided to leave the world of engineering for that of education. During his 10 years as a math teacher, he has
become increasingly comfortable with the fact that he is a huge math geek. For the last eight years, he has coached
the Arlington High School math team. In 2008, he founded eMathInstruction to bring an alternative to the hardbound textbook
that has dominated math instruction for over a hundred years.
The author would like
to thank first and foremost his wife, Shana, who has been his love and his strength. He would also like to thank his
two greatest mentors at Arlington High School, Brian Battistoni, his eternal math ping-pong partner, and Jean Fox, his supportive
and wise department coordinator. Finally, Algebra 2 with Trigonometry is dedicated to his two children who inspire him
every night to keep writing.
